More About Gstaad Concours d’Elegance
Monaco has earned its place in the glorious history of motoring and as the origin of motoring sports. In 1911 January 21- 29 , the first Rallye Automobile Monaco was launched and the winner was the pilot Henri Rougier in a 25hp Turcat Méry. The average speed was 13.8kph and he triumphed over 22 competitors.
In 1929, the first Concours d’Elegance was held and Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky’s Cord L-29 won the best car of the show. If there is anyone who can carry the torch of this tradition today, it is President of the Historic Cars Commission of the Automobile Club Monaco (ACM).
“My passion for authentic vehicles started in my childhood,” said Gery, an affable and modest man. “On the way to school in Paris I was impressed by the Facel Vega of our neighbour. It is a pretty French car, a little heavy* but with a real identity. They were made by Facel from 1954 to 1962.”
